Marcos will face clay court specialist Juan Ignacio Chela in the first round of Roland Garros. The pair have faced each other five times previously, with Marcos leading the rivalry 3-2. All of the meetings have taken place on hard court. Chela is ranked 43, two places below Marcos.
If Marcos is to go deeper into the tournament than last year, when he reached the Round of 64, he will have to beat Chela and then 12th seed Nicolas Almagro. Marcos has also been drawn in the same quarter of the draw as Rafael Nadal, widely acknowledged to be the greatest ever clay court player.
