After his first-round win at the Aegon Championships on Tuesday, there was more good news for Marcos as he was awarded a wild card into the main draw of The Championships, Wimbledon.
Marcos continued his good form from Nottingham as he finished strongly to defeat Bradley Klahn 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-1 at The Queen’s Club, setting up a second-round clash with top seed and World No. 3 Stan Wawrinka.
Marcos will hope to use the advantage of extra grass-court match practice to claim his first win in four attempts against Wawrinka, who has just played one doubles match on the turf this season. The match is scheduled for third on centre court, following a 12:30pm start.
After Queen’s, Marcos will prepare to make his ninth appearance at the All England Club, where he was a semi-finalist in 2006 (l. to Nadal). After Wimbledon he will compete on the grass in Newport, before moving onto hard court in Atlanta and an ATP Challenger Tour event in Vancouver.
