Marcos made his much expected return to the ATP circuit on Tuesday evening against top seed Ivo Karlovic in the first round of the Open de Moselle in Metz.
Unfortunately, despite a very strong start to the match, Marcos was forced to retire in the second set with a back injury.
Playing in his first ATP-level event since Wimbledon after suffering a right wrist injury, Marcos had won the first set against World No. 14 Karlovic, breaking the 6'10'' Croat's mighty serve in the seventh game before going on to close out the set 6-4 after 35 minutes.
The score line was on serve in the second set, with Karlovic leading 2-1, when Marcos decided he could not continue and sadly brought the curtain down early on his debut in Metz.
