Marcos is through to the quarter-finals of the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships after defeating Israel’s Dudi Sela 7-6(7), 6-3 on Thursday evening.
In a tough match, Sela proved to be hard opposition to close out. Marcos led 5-0 in the first set tie-break but Sela fought back and held one set point before Marcos was able secure the set. Marcos broke twice in the second set to race out to a 5-0 lead before Sela looked to mount a comeback as he won the next three games. However, Marcos held his nerve to serve out the victory after 83 minutes.
“He wasn't going to give up and I'm pretty happy I won,” said Marcos. “I went through a tough match today and I'm looking forward to the next match.”
Marcos is now through to his second ATP World Tour quarter-final of the season and will look to reach his first semi-final since Marseille in February last year when he faces French seventh seed Jeremy Chardy on Friday.
Chardy is a player that Marcos has not met before. The 22-year-old Frenchman is currently ranked a career-high No. 52 after reaching his first ATP World Tour final in Johannesburg last month, when he lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He also reached the quarter-finals in Sydney at the start of the season after qualifying into the main draw.
The match will be played third on Stadium court. The first singles quarter-final precedes it, beginning at not before 12:30pm. Check out the full order of play here.
