Marcos got off to a winning start at the ATP Challenger Tour event in Le Gosier, Guadeloupe, but was unable to sustain the momentum, losing to Edouard Roger-Vasselin on Thursday.
Marcos, the top seed, opened the tournament with a 7-5, 7-6(3) victory over Darian King in one hour and 40 minutes, striking nine aces and converting on three of nine break chances.
Competing in Le Gosier for the first time, he would fall in his bid to advance to his third Challenger quarter-final of the year with a 6-2, 6-2 second round defeat to France's Roger-Vasselin. It was Marcos' first encounter against the former World No. 35 in a decade, with their lone previous meeting having come at the 2005 Orleans Challenger.
Marcos' focus now switches to the clay courts as he travels to Bucharest, Romania, for the ATP World Tour 250 event. He is making his second trip there (2012).
