Marcos began his 2015 grass-court campaign at the Aegon Manchester Trophy in Manchester, Great Britain, and faced a pair of home hopes in the opening rounds.
One year removed from claiming his first title on grass in Nottingham, top seed Marcos earned a first round victory over wild card Marcus Willis in Manchester. He dismissed the Brit 6-4, 6-2 in exactly one hour on Wednesday, converting on four of five break points.
In search of an 11th ATP Challenger Tour title, Marcos looked to carry the momentum into a second round battle with another Brit - 25-year-old Brydan Klein - and the match came down to the wire on Thursday afternoon. Marcos would force a deciding set after claiming the second set tie-break, but was edged 7-5 in a deciding tie-break after two hours and 32 minutes. The final score was 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-6(5). Marcos' three-match winning streak in third set tie-breaks came to an end as well.
Marcos will look to improve his 36-25 tour-level record on grass when he hits the lawns of the MercedesCup in Stuttgart. The ATP World Tour 250 event transitioned from clay to grass in 2015.
