In a tough first-round assignment, Marcos was beaten 6-3, 6-4 by big-serving American John Isner at the Rogers Cup on Wednesday in Montreal.
Play had been halted due to rain that did not desist on Tuesday, and resumed Wednesday in the early stages of the second set. The in-form Isner, who had won 11 of his past 13 matches coming into the Rogers Cup, broke Marcos in the seventh game and from there served out victory in 73 minutes.
Marcos will next compete at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, another ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament beginning Monday, 15 August.
“The match against Isner did not go the way I wanted,” said Marcos. “I lost concentration twice to get broken and you cannot afford that with him.” “I’m heading to Cincy now...I have 2 -3 days to get ready for the next one.”
