Marcos fell to American wild card Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the US Open on Wednesday. Fritz prevailed after one hour and 59 minutes at his home Grand Slam.
Marcos struck 26 winners, including 10 aces, in defeat, while saving five of 10 break points faced. He was making his 12th trip to New York for the US Open.
Marcos will next head to St. Petersburg, Russia, for the ATP World Tour 250 event, which begins on 18 September.
