Marcos was edged out in the first round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Tuesday, falling to World No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6(2), 6-4 at the ATP World Tour 500 hard-court tournament.
A strong performance from Marcos saw him serve for the first set at 5-4, but he was unable to close it out and paid the price as Tsonga hit back in the ensuing tie-break.
Marcos failed to convert five break point opportunities in the second set and rued his missed chances as Tsonga broke decisively in the fifth game before closing out victory in one hour and 36 minutes.
