Marcos is off to a winning start at the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur, defeating former World No. 9 Nicolas Almagro 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1.
Marcos improved to 9-4 in Kuala Lumpur, but it did not come easy on Tuesday. He led by a set and 3-1 in the second, but was pushed to a tie-break, which he would drop 7-5. But Marcos was not rattled after relinquishing the lead and he would reel off five straight games in the third set, converting on his second match point for victory after one hour and 47 minutes.
Marcos leveled the head-to-head against Almagro at one apiece and will look to win his second match of the season against eighth seed Vasek Pospisil next. He previously defeated the Canadian en route to the Atlanta final in July. A finalist in Kuala Lumpur in 2011, Marcos improved to 9-5 in deciding set matches this year.
