Marcos reached the second round of The Championships at Wimbledon on Tuesday with a 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Spain’s Albert Montanes. Marcos hit 12 aces and 37 winners to just 16 unforced errors as he claimed victory in 83 minutes on Court 6.
In the second round on Thursday, Marcos will face Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov, who defeated Kevin Anderson of South Africa in four sets. Marcos has played the 21-year-old Dimitrov just once before, losing to The Queen’s Club semi-finalist on clay in Munich last year.
Also Tuesday, the ITF announced the Olympic team nominations for each nation, with Marcos confirmed as Cyprus’ lone representative. The London 2012 Games tennis event will be held at Wimbledon at the end of July.
