Marcos is back with a vengeance, extending his strong run of form with a first round win at the Intrum Stockholm Open on Tuesday. He defeated Norbert Gombos 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 15 minutes.
Marcos fired three aces and did not face a break point to advance in Stockholm, where he is making his seventh appearance. He converted a break to love in the sixth game of the opening set and claimed one more break for 4-3 in the second set. That was all Marcos needed, eventually converting his second match point to advance.
Marcos is on a tear since the US Open, having reaching his 14th ATP World Tour final at the Chengdu Open two weeks ago. With Tuesday's win, he has won five of his last six matches.
Marcos will next face seventh seed Yuichi Sugita on Thursday. He is an impressive 11-5 in his seven visits to Stockholm, having won the title there on debut in 2009.
