Marcos is set to make his debut at the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy this week and is seeded fifth at the ATP World Tour 250 clay-court tennis tournament. Following the withdrawal of Jurgen Melzer, Marcos was moved up in the draw and will face Italy’s Fabio Fognini in his opening second-round match.
He did get in some clay-court match practice on Tuesday, teaming with Great Britain’s Ross Hutchins in the doubles. Unfortunately, the duo were beaten 6-2, 6-4 by Jeremy Chardy and Lukasz Kubot in their first-round match.
Marcos will get his campaign underway on Thursday in what will be his first match since losing to Novak Djokovic in the second round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami last month. He has been practising in Bucharest for the past few days and had the opportunity to meet Romanian football legend Gheorghe Hagi (see picture).
