Marcos was beaten in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday, 7-5, 6-0, by Indian qualifier Somdev Devvarman.
Devvarman, who has been in strong form in recent weeks, recovered from a break down in the first set and clinched the opener by breaking Marcos’ serve in the 12th game. From there, the 26 year old did not look back, and raced through the next six games, benefitting from a spate of forehand unforced errors by Marcos and impressing with his net play to wrap up victory in 73 minutes.
Marcos will next play at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.
