Marcos was beaten in the first round of the Rogers Cup on Tuesday in Montreal, falling to in-form Italian Fabio Fognini 1-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Marcos played the big points better in the early stages of the match and denied Fognini on three break points as he earned a one-set lead. The Italian finally converted his eighth opportunity to go up 2-0 in the second set and from there had all the momentum. He raced through the second and third sets to claim victory in 79 minutes, only losing five points on serve in the deciding set.
Next up for Marcos will be the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, which begins on Sunday.
