Marcos reached a career milestone on Monday evening in Kuala Lumpur as he defeated sixth seed Alex Bogomolov Jr., 7-6(3), 6-4 to record his 200th match win and reach the second round of the ATP World tour 250 tournament.
Marcos edged a tight first set on a tie-break, before breaking his American opponent’s serve once in the second set to clinch victory in one hour and 45 minutes. It was his second victory in two meetings with the 28 year old, having also beaten him when the pair clashed in Miami five years ago.

“I am very happy I won today,” said Marcos. “It was a tough fight; I was not feeling very comfortable on the court in the beginning because the balls and court were so heavy compared to Metz. I played great in the tie-break to win the first set and slowly, slowly was moving and hitting the ball better in the second.”
Victory for Marcos sees him even up his season match record to 22-22. He next goes on to face either Russian qualifier Mikhail Ledovskikh or India’s Somdev Devvarman.
