Marcos was beaten in the first round of Wimbledon on Monday, losing to 10th-seeded Croatian Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
Cilic had been in strong form coming into Wimbledon, reaching the final of the Aegon Championships at The Queen’s Club eight days ago. He was once again on top of his game as he defeated Marcos in one hour and 34 minutes.
Cilic was solid on serve and was only broken once, midway through the first set. He fired 16 aces and won 76 per cent of points on his delivery, giving Marcos little opportunity to make inroads. The Croatian, watched by 2001 Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic, hit 41 winners, more than double that of Marcos, and only committed 19 unforced errors in a clinical display.
Marcos will look to get back to winning ways when he competes in the German Bundesliga from 5-7 July before travelling to the USA to begin his US Open Series campaign in Washington on 29 July.
