Marcos was beaten in the first round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia on Monday, falling to Italian wild card Fabio Fognini 6-2, 6-2 at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 clay-court tournament.
With the clay swirling in extremely blustery conditions in Rome, Fognini raced to a one-set lead with two breaks of serve. The Italian then capitalised on his momentum to break in the first game of the second set and quickly established a double-break lead. Marcos recouped one of the breaks, but Fognini broke again straight away and wrapped up victory in 75 minutes.
