Marcos’ Delray Beach campaign ended on Thursday night with a 6-7(7), 6-4, 6-2 second-round defeat to Rhyne Williams.
After edging the first set against the American qualifier, Marcos was pegged back, unable to get more than six points on his opponent’s serve as Williams levelled the match. In the deciding set, Williams was again dominant on serve and broke Marcos twice to claim victory in two hours and 26 minutes.
Marcos will now travel to Acapulco for the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, to be played on hard court for the first time this year. David Ferrer, Andy Murray and John Isner are all set to play at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament.
