Marcos was beaten in the first round by Frenchman Julien Benneteau, 7-6(3), 6-2, at the Open de Nice Côte d’Azur on Tuesday.
Marcos made a good start to the match, breaking his opponent’s serve as he raced to a 3-0 lead. However, Benneteau struck back to take the first set in the tie-break and broke Marcos’ serve twice in the second set as he claimed victory in one hour and 35 minutes.
Marcos now has a few days remaining to prepare for Roland Garros, which begins on Sunday in Paris. The main singles draw will be made on Friday.
