Marcos was victorious in his return to the St. Petersburg Open, kicking off his third visit to the Russian city with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Horacio Zeballos.
Marcos improved to 2-0 against Zeballos with the first-round win, striking 18 aces and saving all six break points faced. It was an impressive win for Marcos, who also claimed 81 per cent of first serve points.
Both players remained on serve in the first set, before Marcos seized his first break in the 11th game. He reeled off six straight points to pull ahead 6-5 and grab the set. In the second set, he secured another late break for 5-4 and would convert his second match point as Zeballos sent a backhand wide.
