Marcos secured his first clay-court win of the season Tuesday as he battled past German qualifier Peter Gojowczyk 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of the BMW Open in Munich.
In damp conditions in Munich, Marcos rallied from a set down to defeat his No. 384-ranked opponent. Playing his first ATP World Tour-level match, Gojowczyk impressed in the early stages, rallying from an early 0-2 deficit to win six of the next seven games and claim a one-set lead.

Marcos hit back strongly, though, breaking serve three times in the second set as he levelled the match at one-set apiece. Eager to impress playing in his home town, Gojowczyk launched a final assault in the third set as he broke to lead 2-1. However, Marcos immediately rose to the challenge the 20-year-old German presented, reeling off five straight games to seal victory in one hour and 39 minutes.
In the second round on Thursday Marcos will face Swiss Marco Chiudinelli, who defeated French qualifier Thierry Ascione 6-0, 6-4. Marcos has not played the No. 68-ranked Chiudinelli since 2003, when they he defeated the Swiss in a Futures event in Uzbekistan. The match is first up on Centre Court, play starts at 12.00pm local time.
