Two weeks after reaching his first clay-court quarter-final in four years in Houston, Marcos is back on the dirt, making his third appearance at the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy.
A year removed from a second round finish in Bucharest, Marcos is returns to the Romanian capital, boasting a 10-6 win-loss mark in 2016. He opens against Italy's Marco Cecchinato on Tuesday - the second match on Centre Court. It will be their first meeting.
Victory over Cecchinato, No. 99 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, would see Marcos face Damir Dzumhur in the second round. Seeded fifth this week, Marcos could potentially encounter third seed Federico Delbonis in the quarterfinals, with big-serving Ivo Karlovic looming in the semis.
Marcos carries a nine-match winning streak in ATP World Tour first-round matches, having not lost an opener since Winston-Salem last August.
