Marcos opened his Aegon Open Nottingham campaign with a first round win on Sunday, advancing when Victor Estrella Burgos retired with a neck injury at 7-5, 3-0.
The match concluded in exactly one hour, with Marcos saving all four break points faced and converting on all three garnered. He won an impressive 88 per cent (22 of 25) of first serve points, while firing five aces.
Marcos, who won the title in Nottingham last year when it was an ATP Challenger Tour event, will face top seed David Ferrer in the second round. Ferrer owns a 4-1 head-to-head edge, having most recently won at the Australian Open in 2013. Three years prior, Marcos rallied from two sets down to dismiss the Spaniard in five sets at Melbourne Park.
Ferrer is the second top seeded Spaniard he will face on grass this month, having fallen to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in Stuttgart. Having taken a week off to train ahead of Nottingham, Marcos will look to be fresh when he tackles Ferrer on Tuesday.
