Marcos is through to the second round of the SA Tennis Open after defeating South African qualifier Andrew Anderson 6-4, 6-2 on Monday in Johannesburg.
The resilient 25-year-old Johannesburg native gave Marcos a good fight in the first set, and levelled after Marcos had opened up a 4-2 lead. However, Marcos came out on top at the business end of the set, breaking in the 10th game to seal it 6-4.
The second set was a more comprehensive affair for Marcos, who has been preparing in Johannesburg since last Wednesday. Two breaks in the sixth and eighth games sufficed as he wrapped up victory in one hour and 28 minutes.
In the second round Marcos will face another South African – wild card Raven Klaasen, who defeated Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo in the first round.
"The venue is great and the support was very good, but I did not have that much fun out there because I didn't play very well," admitted Marcos.
"After a back injury, it is not that easy. But it's just a matter of time, getting time on my feet and finding my rhythm."
Stay tuned for a look ahead to the second round.
Go, Marcos!
