A self-confessed much more confident Marcos won his first match of 2009 with a hard-fought 7-6(3), 6-4 victory over veteran Croatian Ivan Ljubicic on Thursday at the AAMI Classic in Kooyong.
“[It feels] very nice, to tell the truth, very nice [to get the win]. It feels great. Smile is back so, you know, it's a relief going into the Aussie Open, so that's the most important thing.
“Now I play two matches here, one in Brisbane (last week), I'm starting to feel good on court,” said Marcos afterwards.
Reflecting on his performance, Marcos said: “I was just being myself on court, and I think that's the most important thing, and that's all. I have four days left (before the start of the Australian Open) to work on the serve, so we will see how it goes these four days.”
