Hi everyone,
I’m talking to you from ‘s-Hertogenbosh, where I am preparing for the Ordina Open after spending five days in London for the AEGON Championships at Queen’s Club.
It was good to be in London, but I didn’t do anything much because I was sick last week. I was on antibiotics so it was not that much fun. Because I was really sick last week, I couldn’t do fun things like sight-seeing. The good news is that I’m feeling much better now!
For the first week on grass I felt very good. I won against a wild card (James Ward – 6-2, 6-3) in the first round at Queen’s and in the second round against Youzhny, who was playing quite good, I had my chance but I couldn’t really take it.
At 3-3 I had 15/40 on his serve in the first set, then at 4-4 the same thing - two break points on his serve - but I couldn’t break then he broke me at 5-4 and he won the set. In the second set I started a bit slowly, he broke me to lead 2-0. Then I broke back, I came back into the match - I was 4-2 up, 15/40 on his serve and unfortunately could not close it out. I think I played well and if I could just win some matches like this I would come back.

Hopefully I will get a good draw this week at the Ordina Open. You need some luck sometimes to win some points, for your opponent to give you one or two points extra and get some confidence back and the wins will come.
I’m travelling with my new coach, Eduardo Infantino at the moment. It’s working very well, we’re talking a lot. We’re trying to get to know each other, he’s especially trying to know me – not as a person – but how do I think. At the moment we’re discussing a lot how to find a way to make things better. In preparation for the grass-court season we’ve been working a bit on the serve and the return and we’re doing OK. I won one match, I had some chances against Youzhny and, like I said, it’s just a case of trying to turn the match around and win matches like that.
I don’t know if my family and friends will come to Wimbledon with me yet, I haven’t spoken to them about it. I hope my mother will come. I think they will come over, they always do and we stay in a house in Wimbledon.
I don’t really keep in touch with my family and friends too much when I’m travelling. Especially at the moment when I’m having, not difficulties, but it’s the toughest time of my career. So I try to focus, try to work on my game and stay in my “bubble” and basically don’t talk to a lot of people and just do my thing. I’m just working and working and staying concentrated on my tennis.
My football team is Manchester United and I think Cristiano Ronaldo’s £80m move to Real Madrid is amazing. It’s going to be tough without Cristiano but I think Sir Alex knows what to do! I think they will buy Karim Benzema from Lyon and Franck Ribery from Bayern Munich – if they buy those two players, then even if Ronaldo leaves we will have a very good team.
That’s all for now – speak to you soon!
Marcos.
