The first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament of the season will get underway on Thursday in Indian Wells and Marcos has the privilege of a bye through the first round, courtesy of being seeded No. 27.
Fresh from Cyprus’ success in the Davis Cup at the weekend, Marcos arrived in Palm Springs late on Monday after 27 hours of travelling and is ready to take his place in the 96-man draw at the BNP Paribas Open.

Marcos is in the top half of the draw and will open against either Frenchman Arnaud Clement or Australian Peter Luczak in the second round. Looming large for Marcos in the third round is a likely clash with World No. 1 Roger Federer, which would be a rematch of the 2006 Australian Open final. Federer is playing in his first tournament since claiming his 16th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, having been sidelined in Dubai due to a lung infection.
Eight of the top 10 players are involved in Indian Wells; with seventh seed Andy Roddick also featuring in Marcos’ quarter of the draw.

Marcos will be competing in Indian Wells for the fourth time and enjoyed his best result to date on his debut in 2006, when he defeated then-World No. 8 Gaston Gaudio en route to the quarter-finals, where he lost to Rafael Nadal.
