Marcos’ campaign at the Proton Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2009 has come to an end in the second round at the hands of Mikhail Youzhny. The Russian, ranked No. 52 in the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings, sealed the 6-2, 6-3 win in 67 minutes.
The 27-year-old Youhzny had performed well to oust seventh-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer in the first round, and carried his strong form into the clash with Marcos. The Muscovite converted four of the six break points he created, while facing none on his own serve, and surrendered just six points on serve throughout the match.
Next up for Marcos will be the China Open, beginning in Beijing next week. It is an ATP World Tour 500 tennis tournament, so there are plenty of ranking points on offer. Marcos has enjoyed success there in the past, capturing his maiden ATP World Tour title in 2006 with a comprehensive victory over Mario Ancic.
World No. 6 Andy Roddick is the defending champion next week, and is joined in the strong field by No. 2 Rafael Nadal and No. 4 Novak Djokovic.
