Marcos' journey to ATP World Tour stardom began 12 years ago, as an ambitious teenager seeking to begin a fruitful career in professional tennis.
Marcos turned pro in 2003 and after capturing his first Futures titles in Syros, Greece, and Andijan, Uzbekistan, set his sights on a third crown when he entered the hard courts of Alkmaar, The Netherlands. Marcos had celebrated his 18th birthday just two weeks prior, and he would give himself the perfect gift in routing Ignacio Gonzalez King 6-3, 6-1 in the final.
It was a significant victory for Marcos, who would go on to crack the Top 300 of the Emirates ATP Rankings a month later.
"I have great memories of those days fighting on the Futures circuit. I was only 14 years old when I first played in an international tournament and from then on I challenged myself to compete around the world.
"The jump from the Futures to ATP Challenger level was quick, but I do remember I enjoyed my time in Alkmaar and was treated very well by the tournament organisers and local fans. I appreciate the tournament saving this video and allowing me to re-live this great memory and share it with all my fans as well."
