Marcos put in a great effort but unfortunately his first round match with Sam Querrey ended in retirement.
Marcos served for the first set at 5-4, but could not convert for a one set lead as Querrey hit back with three straight games.
Marcos continued battling in the second set and reaped the rewards, recovering from a 0-3 deficit in the tie-break to level the match.
In the decider, Marcos had just lost serve to trail 2-3 when he was forced to retire.
