For a place in the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open, Marcos faces a mighty challenge in the form of World No. 1 Roger Federer on Tuesday evening in Indian Wells.
The 28-year-old Federer, a three-time former winner of the BNP Paribas Open, played his first match since winning the Australian Open when he defeated Victor Hanescu in three sets in the second round on Sunday. The Swiss had been sidelined in Dubai due to a lung infection.

Federer takes a commanding 6-0 career lead into the clash with Marcos, including a memorable victory in the final of the 2006 Australian Open, when Marcos did win the first set before succumbing to the Swiss in four sets. Their most recent meeting came in the Halle quarter-finals two years ago, when Federer prevailed in straight sets.
