Marcos and Rares Cuzdriorean teamed up for a 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 doubles victory over Alexis Klegou and Magloire Yakpa on Saturday to give Cyprus a 2-1 lead over Benin in the Davis Cup Group II play-off tie in Nicosia.
Marcos will have the chance clinch the tie for Cyprus on Sunday when he faces Klegou in the first of the reverse singles matches. Should he win, as well as retaining Cyprus’ position in Group II, Marcos would also equal Bjorn Borg’s record of 33 successive Davis Cup singles wins.
Play is due to start at 12noon at the National Tennis Centre in Nicosia on Sunday. Stay tuned to www.baghdatis.com for updates.
