Cyprus has finished the opening day’s play in Nicosia level at 1-1 with Benin. Marcos notched his 32nd consecutive Davis Cup victory by defeating Jean Segodo 6-1, 6-1 6-1, before Alexis Klegou drew the visiting nation level with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 win over Petros Chrysochos.
Marcos will partner Rares Cuzdriorean in Saturday’s doubles as they look to give Cyprus a 2-1 advantage in this Group II play-off tie.
