Marcos opens his US Open campaign on Tuesday with his first match against Germany’s Matthias Bachinger. Fully recovered from the back injury that hampered him in Winston-Salem last week, Marcos will look to reach the second round at Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2006.
Bachinger is World No. 115 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings and secured his place in the main draw after dropping just one set in three matches in the qualifying tournament. Back in 2009 he was ranked at No. 242 and has continued improving over the years. However, a small drop in form over the first half of the year has seen him drop down from No. 94. He has never won a main draw match at the US Open.
Head-to-head Marcos comes out on top, having won all three of their past encounters. Looking at their playing statistics this season, Marcos has the better service games, but Bachinger has been more successful at saving break points.
