Marcos was forced out of the Western & Southern Open on Sunday night in Cincinnati as he was beaten by American James Blake 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Blake broke serve four times from 11 opportunities and seized control of the match in the decider as he came from a set down to claim victory in one hour and 48 minutes.
“He took his chances and I couldn’t stay focused and finish it off,” lamented Marcos. “I didn’t serve so well in the last set and a half and it cost me the match.”
It was the chance to claim some revenge for the American, a former World No. 4, who had been beaten in five sets by Marcos in the first round at Wimbledon.
