Marcos’ campaign in Cincinnati was shortlived as he was beaten in the first round of the Western & Southern Open by Julien Benneteau, 6-3, 6-2, on Sunday afternoon.
Marcos came up against strong serving by Benneteau and was thwarted on four of the five break point chances he held in the 66-minute match. It was Benneteau’s fifth win over Marcos in their seven career meetings.
Marcos will look to get back to winning ways in Winston Salem, which will be his final tournament before the US Open.
