On Saturday 14 July, Marcos married WTA player Karoline Sprem in an intimate ceremony in Croatia. Marcos described it as, “The happiest day of my life.” The couple are also expecting their first child, due in October.
Moving forward, Marcos will be competing at the London 2012 Olympic Games in two weeks’ time under the guidance of new coach, Yiannos Hajigeorgiou, having parted company with Miles Maclagan following Wimbledon.
Marcos will be the flag bearer for Cyprus at the Opening Ceremony on Friday, 27th July, before representing his nation in the singles competition. The Olympic tennis will be held at Wimbledon.
"I’m excited as it will be different!" said Marcos. "Like playing in another tournament but at the Wimbledon grounds, with different kinds of fans more like Davis Cup. Best-of-three matches are played at the Olympics and that changes a lot. Like the Davis Cup, at the Olympics you don’t play for yourself but for your country. I think it’s a good opportunity to win a medal and if I go to the Olympics just to participate then better not to be there."
