Two days after registering a pulsating three-set victory over David Goffin in Rotterdam, Marcos suffered a 6-3, 6-2 second round defeat to Martin Klizan.
Both Marcos and 43rd-ranked Klizan exchanged breaks of serve in the first four games of the match, before the Slovakian closed out the set after another break at 4-3. He would convert on two more opportunities in the second set and closed out the match after one hour and nine minutes. It was their first meeting.
Marcos, whose upset of Goffin on Tuesday was his first Top 20 win since October, will look to the ATP World Tour 500 event in Dubai to continue the momentum. The tournament begins on February 22.
